Vote for A NEW JAMAICA – The New Merged Local & Gen. Election Systems!
The Jamaicans will be voting at the General Elections soon. Here are questions and our answers to them. We feel these are the questions that should be on the voting public minds’ as the time draws nearer.
Q- Why are we holding General and Local Government elections on separate dates when it costs so much (budget of just under 1 Billion JA$) to host these elections?
A- There are many examples from other countries of the world with much are complexed systems and problems of logistics them Jamaica with its mere 1.3 million voters. (India has more than 300 million voters at elections).
The savings to be enjoy by bringing the two elections together on the same day and using that single ballots for all the candidates could pay for the additional logistics required.
Small island countries like our in the Caribbean have to really confront the hurdles and remove them fast. Get development working now! Simple items like merging elections dates and terms by making them all 4 years instead of 3 for local (many time going for much longer) and 5 for General (many times going much shorter). Even having them held on fixed dates should be applicable by now this just not at all difficult to do.
Jamaicans have to demand these things even those of you living outside of the country – you should be voting too!

Why not support the JLP or PNP?
July 25, 2007Hi DK,
Thanks for your question. Elections are suppose to be about our principles. There are a set of principles that the National Democratic Movement, NDM, stand for that cannot be found in the two major parties.
- Separation of Powers (Three equally powerful arms of government)
- Nominations, hearings and then appointment to the major positions
- Systemic changes to the way the country and its business is done
- Participatory Practices for the highest to the lowest levels
- Removal of Income Taxes over 5 year period
- Decentralization of Government Functions
- Dismantling of “Garrison Politics”
- Value for money to citizens
- Apprenticeship Programs
The JLP has not accepted the ideas of the NDM but for a few. The PNP seems to pick, choose and refuse most of the tenets of our policies else they would have implemented them by now. Using it for playing politics to carrot the citizens then whip them based on their agenda at the time.
Our founding President and other officers and candidates may now be there but the ideas have not gone there with them. Other NDM officers and candidates also are now with the PNP and they have nothing to say on the NDM policies either. It seems their move was motivated by expedience instead of on principle.
Many of the most important things that the NDM stand for do not yet to be discussed let alone accepted by the ranks of the JLP or PNP. Because it does not really serve them to have these people policies in place. It is one thing to have returned but quite another to return with conditions (to pretend that you do not believe in the NDM values or that the NDM does not exist. I do not know what causes JLP/PNP to hold so firmly against the many other good thing the NDM has in mind but that is for them to work out.
All the NDM members and supporters can do is keep on saying and singing the same songs that we believe in. The NDM platform represents us! There is Another Way, JAMAICA! to undo the problems of the past and set a great course for the future. If only our citizens will come to realize that together we can change the system.

Investments & Job Creation
